Ruawai Volunteer Fire brigade was first established on the 4th April 1953.
Training nights are every 2nd and 4th Monday of the Month.
With weekly appliance and equipment checks and testing occuring every wednesday evening.
As a volunteer station, it means all members of our brigade dedicate their own time in order to serve this community without payment.
We respond to a variety of emergencies in our local area with upto around 160 call-outs per year. These include:
Fires
Medical emergencies
Motor vehicle accidents
Search and rescue
Civil defence
Natural disaster responses
And of course, we also offer fire safety advice.
People of all ages and abilities add to the diversity of the brigade; we are all people who care about our communities and who want to be actively involved in them. Many of the skills learned as Firefighters can be applied to various situations you will face in life, and these transferable skills will benefit your place of work.
Our purpose:
To become reasonably efficient as to organisation, staffing, equipment, discipline and training as a Brigade and meet the requirements for protection of the District from fire and to be able to apply those skills and resources to assist at other types of emergency.
To become registered with the Commission as a (volunteer fire brigade or Fire Brigade auxiliary unit).
To undertake fire safety activities, the suppression and extinction of fire, the protection of life and property and rendering of humanitarian assistance in accordance with the requirements of the Agreement of Service.
To promote the safety and welfare of its Members in the course of their duties within the Brigade.
Subject to these rules, to undertake any activity which a body corporate may lawfully undertake to achieve the objects of the Brigade as set out in these rules. (NB. This rule is only required if the Brigade is incorporated}.
